Secure IT Asset Disposal & Sustainable Reuse

Jersey Finance required a secure, compliant, and environmentally responsible solution for the disposal of redundant IT equipment. As a regulated organisation handling sensitive business information, secure data destruction and full audit compliance were critical, alongside a desire to support sustainability goals.

The Challenge

Like many organisations, Jersey Finance had accumulated a range of end of life IT assets, including laptops, desktops, mobile devices, and storage media.

The challenge was to ensure:

  • Complete data security across all data bearing devices
  • Full compliance with WEEE and environmental regulations
  • Maximum opportunity for asset recovery and reuse
  • Transparent reporting on both security and environmental impact

The Solution

On 31 March 2026, the team at IT Hardware Services (SM) Ltd completed a secure on site collection and processing project.

Assets processed included:

  • 30 laptops
  • 28 desktop PCs
  • 5 tablets
  • 4 smartphones
  • Multiple storage devices and peripherals

Every asset was securely logged, transported, and processed through ITHSCI’s certified IT asset disposition workflow.

All data bearing media underwent either certified secure erasure or physical destruction, ensuring complete protection of confidential data throughout the chain of custody.

The Results

Following assessment and testing:

  • 31 devices were successfully refurbished and prepared for reuse.
  • Remaining assets were responsibly recycled in line with WEEE regulations and UK/EU environmental standards.
  • The refurbishment programme prevented 4,560kg of CO₂ from entering the waste stream through reuse rather than disposal.

Business Impact

Client Outcome

By partnering with ITHSCI, Jersey Finance achieved:

  1. Secure and compliant disposal of redundant IT assets.
  2. Reduced environmental impact through certified reuse.
  3. Full audit trail and reporting for internal governance.
  4. Support toward wider ESG and sustainability objectives.

This project demonstrates how secure IT disposal does not have to mean unnecessary waste. Through intelligent refurbishment, certified data destruction, and responsible recycling, ITHSCI helped Jersey Finance protect sensitive information while giving valuable equipment a second life.

Carbon Savings Certification

When IT equipment is refurbished for reuse instead of being recycled or destroyed, we prevent the “total loss” of the carbon invested during original manufacturing. Rather than requiring new production, extending equipment lifecycle saves the CO₂ that would otherwise be permanently be lost to the atmosphere. In Jersey Finance’s case, that amounted to 4,560kg of CO₂.

This figure is obtained through official manufacturer Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) data using our proprietary calculation system to measure actual carbon impact. Using verified data from manufacturers including Lenovo, Dell, and HP, we calculate the precise CO₂ savings achieved when equipment receives a second life instead of immediate disposal.

Many organisations require quantifiable environmental data for ESG reporting and sustainability targets. Our certified carbon calculations provide the documented proof and audit trails required for corporate environmental compliance, turning your IT disposal decisions into measurable contributions toward carbon reduction goals.
